Congenital Hand Anomalies
Hand anomalies like syndactyly (joined fingers), extra fingers, absent digits etc. are the birth defects which need timely treatment to allow the normal growth and function of the hand.
In these cases, surgeries are often considered depending on the functional and cosmetic deformities. Early consultation with a plastic surgeon is an important part of treatment process for the child born with a hand deformity. The usual age of surgical correction is one year onwards and these kids may need more than one procedure. If the deformity poses concern over growth of the fingers, then surgery is undertaken on priority basis. The cosmetic appearance is extremely important along with the functional outcome.
