Liposuction

Liposuction removes selected localised fat deposits to change body contour. It is not a treatment for obesity and does not remove loose skin or correct every surface irregularity. Skin elasticity, stable weight and the areas being treated influence what the operation may achieve.

What to know

How it is performed

After the treatment areas are marked and anaesthesia is provided, fluid is introduced into the fatty tissue and a fine cannula is used to remove fat through small incisions. Assisted techniques may be used. The volume and extent of treatment are planned individually.

Who may consider a consultation?

People with localised fat concerns may discuss liposuction after health and skin assessment. Loose skin, significant weight changes or other medical factors may change the recommendation.

Recovery & follow-up

Bruising, swelling and temporary numbness or firmness are expected. A compression garment and activity restrictions may be advised. Contour continues to develop as swelling settles; work and exercise clearance depend on treatment extent.

Risks & considerations

Discuss contour irregularity, fluid collections, scarring, infection, blood clots and anaesthetic risks. Larger or combined operations can carry greater risks.

Questions to bring to your consultation

Ask which areas could be treated, how skin quality affects the result and whether another procedure is needed for loose skin. Discuss stable weight and realistic contour expectations.
