What to know
How it is performed
Through incisions inside the nostrils or an open approach with a small columellar incision, the surgeon adjusts selected bone and cartilage. Cartilage grafts may be used where support is needed. Septal work can be discussed if breathing is affected; not every patient needs the same combination.
Who may consider a consultation?
People seeking a change to nasal shape, proportion or selected structural concerns may discuss rhinoplasty after assessment of facial growth, health and expectations. Previous nose surgery makes planning more complex.
Recovery & follow-up
Early swelling, bruising and nasal congestion are expected. Splints or dressings may be used. Return to work and exercise depends on the surgery and your progress; subtle swelling and refinement can continue for months.
Risks & considerations
Discuss breathing changes, asymmetry, persistent swelling, scarring, infection and the possibility of revision. A particular nose shape cannot be guaranteed.
Questions to bring to your consultation
Describe the changes you would like, any breathing concerns and any previous nose surgery. Ask what can be achieved, how function is assessed and which limitations apply to your anatomy.
